DESCRIPTION:Near You Event - Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of
  Engineering - POSTPONED\n\nEvent Type: Seminar\n\nIndustry Sector: Cross-
sector\n\nSpeak Details: Dr William Sayers is currently conducting researc
h on Physical Systems Modelling with Artificial Intelligence\, this area o
f research investigates the optimisation of physical engineering systems\,
  using multi-objective optimisation techniques.\n\nDescription : POSTPONEM
ENT\n\nIMechE and IET presentation and webinar Thursday 16 April 2026 at 1
9.00 to 20.15\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of Engineering
by Dr Will Sayers\, Associate Head of School - University of Gloucestershi
re\n\nTo all who have registered for this event:\n\nWe are sorry to have t
o inform you that the IMechE and IET presentation and webinar scheduled fo
r Thursday 16 April 2026 cannot now take place and has had to be postponed
.\n\nWe were just about to send you the joining instructions and link\, bu
t Dr Sayers has found that he is unexpectedly unable to make his presentat
ion on Thursday.&nbsp\; We apologise for the short notice\, but this is be
yond anyone's control.\n\nWe will advertise a new date as soon as this can
be established.\nThank you very much for your interest in this important
topic\, for your booking\, and for your understanding in this situation.\n
\n\nArtificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of Engineering\n\nThe topi
c of AI is now present almost daily in news reports and technical and busi
ness papers and is something we really must learn to understand.\n\nMany q
uestions have been raised by engineers about the future effects\, use and
advantages of AI in engineering.\n\nDr Will Sayers at the University of Gl
oucestershire\, whose research focuses on how AI can help solve real-world
problems\, believes the UK&rsquo\;s ambitious plans for AI leadership wil
l bring further investment and create more jobs within Gloucestershire&rsq
uo\;s thriving cyber community and within the UK.\n\nHis presentation will
look broadly at the topic and cover many of the questions raised and will
include real examples of AI use in mechanical engineering\, manufacturing
\, civil engineering.\n\n\nDr Will Sayers UoG AI Presentation and Webinar
to IMechE\n\nThe questions raised by engineers included &ndash\;\n\n&bull\
;	What is AI\, why is it currently so fashionable\, what is new\, what is
now different?\n\n&bull\;	Have we not been using AI ever since there were
data bases? Intelligent applications are already all around us &ndash\; Go
 ogle\, chatGBT\, Alexa\, etc.&nbsp\;\n\n&bull\;	Isn&rsquo\;t there confusi
on of AI with automation\, robotisation\, 3D modelling and general use of
the internet all of which we have used in engineering for years?\n\n&bull\
;	How can we be certain of accuracy\, where is responsibility\, what are t
he risks to safety\, security\, IP?\n\n&bull\;	How will our engineering wo
rld be affected by AI and how should we use it?\n&nbsp\;\nThe presentation
will cover &ndash\;\n\nWhat is artificial intelligence\, where did it com
e from\, how is it impacting us today?\n\nDeterministic and Generative eng
 ineering\nOptimisation\nFuture developments\nWays to utilise AI\, examples
of how engineering firms could be using AI and digital\nUoG working toget
her with other HE institutions and Engineers\n&nbsp\;\nFormat\n\nThis will
be a hybrid event with an in-person audience in the UoG main lecture room
plus on-line attendance via MS Teams.\n\nThe presentation will last 45 mi
ns and will be followed by a 30 minute Q&amp\;A. On-line attendees can sub
mit questions using the chat facility.\n\nFull joining and logistical deta
ils will be sent following registration.\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\nContact
