*** UPDATE ***

Hopefully it will be warm and sunny when the visit takes place, but the field is VERY wet underfoot.
Please wear WALKING SHOES or WELLY BOOTS.

Please do not arrive TOO EARLY. 10:45 for 11 am is perfect.
Otherwise, please note the following info from the operators of the Solar Farm;

"If it is unavoidable that some cars have to arrive early, it would be really helpful if they could park in the layby which is on the left just after entering the private lane (Iley Lane) to the solar farm, and then walk up to the solar farm entrance at 10.45.  That would be hugely appreciated!

However, if people find they have time to kill after making good time on their journey, a much more pleasant option than sitting in Iley Lane is to drive (2 mins) or walk (10 mins) further on down Lower Pennington Lane from the solar farm to the salt marshes (which are a wonderfully tranquil bird reserve) which is at the very end of Lower Pennington Lane where the road ends in a small car park. It’s a lovely location which gives stunning views of the Isle of Wight and the Needles."

A little information about the Solar Farm;
Total installed capacity is 2.4MW, but this is limited to 2.0MW supply by local Grid capacity. This is enough to supply about 650 local homes (or about 700 kettles or 2 million mobile phone chargers!).

The field was previously a gravel pit which was then used for landfill. Only 28% of the area of the field is covered by solar equipment, and only 3% of the field surface is no longer soil. The rest of the field between the solar panels is planted with a mix of wildflowers and grass. The ecology of the site has been surveyed by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife trust and is carefully monitored to ensure maximum benefit for wildlife.

More details about the farm can be found here.
