Description

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the railways in Worcestershire which have over the years provided important local and national transport links for passengers, locally manufactured goods and materials across the county and beyond. Routes include the Birmingham to Bristol mainline that passes through Bromsgrove, where the idea for the IMechE was first discussed during an engineering visit to view locomotive trials.  That visit was organised by James McConnell who in 1847 became the first Chairman of the Institution at a meeting held in Birmingham.

Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to visit the recently opened restored signal box.    Please note that the only access to the presentation area and signal box is up a long flight of stairs - there is no lift.

Access to the museum is through the Severn Valley Railway station at Kiddiminster - go through the booking office and turn right just before the platforms.

Tea & Coffee will be available on arrival.
