Description
Very High-Speed Rail Approaches in Europe and Japan
Prof. Felix Schmid will begin his talk with a brief historical introduction about high-speed rail, from the Rainhill Trials to the 1950s. He will then compare the high-speed rail approaches adopted for the Shinkansen lines in Japan and for Japanese influenced projects elsewhere with the arrangements favoured in Europe. He will also introduce railway optimisation tools developed within BCRRE at The University of Birmingham and will discuss the plans for the HS2 station at London Euston.
