A unique public transport solution - The Cambridge Autonomous Metro


Talk details:

The Cambridge Autonomous Metro is an ambitious project to connect Cambridge and surrounding areas with a unique public transport solution. Combining our unique medieval city with a modern infrastructure project is a significant challenge. Our speakers led the work of the project's Technology Advisory Committee which produced a deliverable proposal for the project last year. Following the announcement of three new concepts, our speakers will discuss the engineering challenges, proposed solutions and the benefits it could bring to the city.


About the speakers:

David Cleevely was chair of the Cambridge Autonomous Metro Technology Advisory Committee and is a serial entrepreneur having founded or co-founded numerous companies. These have included telecoms consultancy Analysis Mason and the antibody company Abcam with Dr Jonathan Milner David is chair of four companies, including the award-winning restaurant Bocca di Lupo in Soho. He’s been a member of the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board and of the Ministry of Defence Board overseeing information systems and services. David studied cybernetics at Reading University and received a PhD from Cambridge. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the IET.

Professor John Miles is a Fellow of Emmanuel College and the Arup/Royal Academy of Engineering Research Professor in Transitional Energy Strategies. John has 40 years leading high-tech projects in energy and transport through a career at global Engineering consultancy, Arup. His interests include the technology and economics of future transport systems, with a particular emphasis on future systems and environmental impact. John is a member of the UK Automotive Council.
