This online presentation will give a brief high level overview of the steel industry in the UK, its role in the rail supply chain and some of the questions it faces as it looks to the future. It will then dive deeper into some of the specific recent rail-related research activity supported by British Steel, focusing on case studies around rail/wheel contact, grinding of premium rails, and lateral resistance of steel sleepers. It will finish by highlighting the value of sponsored research in bringing skills into the industry
