The marine sector is currently undergoing increased regulations from IMO such as Tier III for SOx and NOx emissions. Recently IMO’s member states agreed to reduce CO2 emissions with 50% in 2050 compared to 2008. As an answer to these upcoming regulations new technologies are being developed.

The global energy system has to undergo a transformation to achieve the targets of the Paris Agreement. However, the total decarbonisation of certain sectors, such as transport, industry and users that require high-grade heat, may be difficult purely by means of electrification. This challenge could be addressed by hydrogen from renewables.
