Dear members and friends of the Joint Group,

You are invited to the presentation on “Standardisation in the Construction Sector” to be given by Mrs. Anna Dionysiou, Civil Engineer and Standardization Officer at the Cyprus Organization for Standardization (CYS).

The event is open to all interested parties and will take place at the Cleopatra Hotel in Nicosia on Wednesday, November 05, 2025, at 6.30 pm.

The subject of the presentation will be the role and mission of the Cyprus Organization for Standardization as the national standardization body of Cyprus and its contribution to the standardization system at national, European and international levels. In particular, opportunities given to Cypriot expert Engineers and other interested parties will be presented as well as ways to participate more actively in the standardization processes. Finally, the presentation will highlight the role of standards in compliance with the legislative framework, supporting the Engineer throughout the project development process in ensuring the quality, safety and sustainability of a project.

Standards in the construction sector cover a wide range of materials and products and include standards for construction products such as concrete, cement, wood, steel, plaster, aggregates, glass, plastic, insulation materials, masonry products, pipes and sanitary ware and roof and wall coverings.

Harmonized European Standards support the European Construction Products Regulation (EU Regulation 305/2011 – CPR), which was replaced in 2025 by the new Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 and play a key role in the implementation of this CPR Regulation: they include the assessment methods to determine the performance of construction products in relation to their essential characteristics and the provisions for the declaration of performance and the clauses on the assessment and verification of constancy of performance (AVCP), while ensuring the free movement of products on the European market.

These standards provide a commonly accepted technical language that allows manufacturers to communicate the technical performance of their construction products, regulatory authorities to define their requirements and designers, contractors and other actors involved in the construction chain to exchange information effectively.

The presentation will be held in person and online via TEAMS and participation will be free of charge.
