This event has finished

There will be a visit at the 26 Royal Artillery Workshops in Gütersloh in September. The visit is intended to:

  1. Demonstrate the approach to engineering taken by the REME in the land environment.
  2. Develop interest in engineering in a wider context for our soldiers.
  3. Demonstrate the skill and capabilities of REME soldiers thereby contributing to Corps exposure across civilian industry.
  4. Foster Corps/industry relations within Germany.

The day will begin with introductions followed by:

  1. Description of the role and structure of the Corps in general and the Regiment/Wksp in more detail (OC/2IC lead).Discussion of the REME/Wksp approach to engineering and the issues of equipment support in the field (BESD based, ASM/Tiffy led).

  2. Description of the training and development of REME soldiers including the commitment to professional registration and RAJA.

  3. Presentation from IMechE members about the companies they represent (Airbus, VW, BMW, BP).

  4. Walk round/talk through of Equipment AS90, WR and CRARRV, tiffy bus presented in deployed state. This allows the group to meet our soldiers and understand the complexities of the equipment.

  5. If possible a fun shoot on the SAT range or demo of gun drills in the AS90 turret trainer.

With the promotion of professional registration being considered central to the Forces, the Army is keen encourage soldiers in the engineering profession.  This day provides an excellent opportunity to do this and will probably be a first for the REME.
