Description

About NOV Flexibles:
NOV Flexibles delivers flexible pipe systems to the offshore oil and gas industry as well as the chemical & water industry worldwide. A professional and competent supplier of highly engineered flexible pipe systems, we provide a complete solution to our clients including oil companies and the contracting industry. See image: NOV 1.

Designing Flexible Pipes:
Our unbonded flexible pipe structure consists of carefully preformed and helically wound metallic strips and armour wires combined with concentric layers of polymer, textile, fabric tape and friction-reducing materials. The fundamental design basis for a Flexibles structure is the API 17J specification and the associated Recommended Practice API 17B (ref attachment NOV 2).

Factory Site:
The Kalundborg (KAL) factory is located approximately 100 km west of Copenhagen. The KAL factory occupies a total of 180,000 m2, of which more than 50,000 m2 are under roof containing all manufacturing and mounting processes. Based on a typical industry mix of products the annual capacity is approximately 200 km corresponding to a theoretical capacity of 6” IDeq of not less than 225 km. The factory is located at the harbour of Kalundborg and offers full access to and control of two  independent quaysides with water depths ranging from 7 to 10 m and no tidal issues. This allows for simultaneous dual vessel operations. (ref attachment NOV 3)

The Tour:
You will see from attachment ‘NOV 3’ that the size of the site is considerable. We will be given a tour around the site and follow the flexible pipe along its manufacturing journey. The flexible is made up of various layers (ref attachment NOV 2). Each layer has a specific purpose and manufacturing area that we will walk through and be given a presentation on what happens in that area. The tour consists of some very high spec machines that are quite amazing to see in action. Finally we will be able to see the flexible being put into massive reels ready for delivery to the quayside.

The tour lasts about 3 hours including a health and safety briefing at the start.
The best way to arrive is by train, which takes about 90 minutes from Copenhagen.

After the event we will go into Copenhagen by train for a beer and something to eat.
