IMechE has a local membership base supported by regional representatives, branches and groups.
The IMechE Americas Region (North and South America) consists of
2,493 members as of the 2017 reports. The map below shows the distribution of members across our region, with the
Pan-Caribbean Group, the
Texas Group, and four joint Ceng branches across Canada:
CEP, CPGCE, CCB, and the
ECB making up our region's six local groups. If you want to see what we've been up to, check out our
Articles and Newsletters Page.
Each local group has its own committee made up of hard-working volunteers elected on a yearly basis by the members of that local group, usually at an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in late spring. We do our best to keep our contact information up to date, so please do not hesitate to reach out for any reason whatsoever.
Regional governance also consists of a small committee of volunteers elected on a 3-year term (next elections spring 2019). Currently Stuart Hamilton CEng FIMechE is the Americas Regional Chair and William D Hesser AMIMechE serves as the Regional Young Member Representative. You can read details of Stuart and William's policy statements here:
Americas Region Election Statements
The Regional Chair and Regional YMR sit on committees with their counterparts from the remaining 6 international regions - the International Strategy Board (ISB) and International Young Members Committee (IYMC) respectively. These committees serve a number of purposes, including advocating for rights of the international member, funding for local group activities, and for raising the value of IMechE membership overall. This includes organizing the international competitions listed below.
