Professional background:
Born in Penzance, England. In January 1957 started a Marine Engineering Apprenticeship following which studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Attended the Graduate School of Thermodynamics and Related Studies at the University of Birmingham and graduated with an MSc. After several years in England as a Senior Project Engineer in the Power Industry (GEC & C.A. Parsons) and the Oil industry (Shell International Petroleum Company), immigrated to Canada in 1976. For twenty-one years worked in the Power Generation manufacturing industry as the Manager of Engineering. In 1997 joined Ontario Power Generation at their Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, as a Systems Engineer, before finally retiring in 2007. Since then has provided professional technical services to a number of companies as an independent consultant.
How has IMechE participation benefited you?
In over a 50 year working career the IMechE has provided a useful source of technical information, conference papers and continuing professional development. During these years it has also provided a source for professional networking.

40 years in railway engineering primarily in rail vehicle and wayside system design.
My family and I migrated to Canada in 1981 and have never looked back. Since then, I have spent many happy years working on various projects within Canada and overseas.
I am trying to retire but people keep making offers I cannot refuse.
- Professional camaraderie and good networking opportunities
-Volunteering for the committee role is giving me the opportunity to give something back to I Mech E and support the CCB.
- Technical lectures are informative and give a good view of engineering activities outside my personal experience.

Then, worked with the aircraft, manufacturing, mining, chemical, nuclear power and petrochemical industries. Senior project engineer/consultant covering design, procurement, construction, testing, project management in India, Caribbean, Canada, USA, Russian Federation and Kazakhstan for 45 years. Currently monitoring projects in Thailand, India and the Middle East
