This is a joint meeting with DRES and will take place at the Derby Conference Centre starting at the later time of 18.00
Mike Gallie-James will talk about the PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) Rolling Stock Fleet Replacement Programme
The presentation will consider this programme from inception through to the present day, which sees the first of the new trains in trial operations in Pretoria. The contract consists of 3,600 cars in 600 x 6 cars formation in a R51bn deal with Alstom's JV Gibela Rail Transport Consortium
The Gibela contract and trains are one aspect of Prasa’s R172bn, 10-year fleet renewal programme that will see the rail agency modernise its ageing and unreliable urban service Metrorail, which ferries more than 2.2-million passengers daily.
