A recent comprehensive programme of track testing has determined the benefits that could be achieved by:
Variable-rate sanding (i.e. higher sand flow rates at higher speeds),
and  Distributed sanding (i.e. multiple sanders distributed along the train).

The presentation will describe the testing programme and some of the issues that had to be overcome in order to realise its objectives.
