Programme for the 2021/2022 session

The 2021-22 session will see a return to normal face-to-face meetings and we hope to provide an interesting and varied selection of topics.
We plan to hold our meetings face to face on the second Wednesday of each month but note that the December meeting will be a Zoom presentation

The session opener will be on Wednesday 8th September when Jez Yarnall of DATS will tell us about the work his company undertook as part of the Midland Main Line Electrification Programme

On 20th October the new RD Chairman James Collinson will present his Chairman's address - ‘Dots and Boxes: what it can teach railway engineers and organisations’

On 10th November there will be a lecture concerning the Coventry Very Light Railway which will be an overview of the concept and development of the novel VLR - Speakers TBC - this is a joint meeting with the PWI

Please note that the meeting on 8th December will take the form of a Zoom presentation when our Chairman Dave Coxon will relate the trials and tribulations of ‘Taking trains to Europe before the Tunnel’ - this is a joint meeting with DRES, Joining details to follow

The New Year opens on January 12th when Gareth Race, Head of Fleet for EMR, will describe the challenges associated with replacing the EMR fleet and explain their experience of introducing  EMUs

The Future of Rail Presentation Competition will be held on 9th February where we will hear 3 papers by local younger engineers

On 9 March, speakers from Loram UK will present an overview on the growth of Loram UK’s existing maintenance and projects businesses and their development into main line operator, vehicle builder and international business - speakers TBC

On 13th April Karl Watts, CEO of Rail Operations (UK) will outline his organisation’s plans to operate high speed intermodal freight and provide an update on the introduction of  the class 93 locomotives

In mid- May 2022 there will be a technical visit to the Great Central Railway at Loughborough - As numbers will be limited, this event will require pre -registration - details to follow
