Your committee invites you to take part in our events programmes.
Any member of IMechE will be made welcome by our Committees. The prime role of the committees is to arrange events that inform and extend our knowledge of current engineering technology and management skills. Networking is a big part, and we try to make it entertaining too. We also permit ourselves a little bit of history. In these current times committees are still up and running and are being creative with ways to meet and have events virtually.
A good way to make contact is to attend one of our meetings and make sure you speak to a committee member. This has never been easier as we explore virtual meetings, you can attend from the comfort of your own home. They will be looking out for new faces and may get to you first!
We are organised into Areas to provide meetings in or close to our major centres of population and engineering activity. This works well in the west of our region where Derby/Nottingham and Leicester are within 20 miles/ 45 minutes of many Members.
It is not so easy in Lincolnshire where Scunthorpe, Gainsborough, Lincoln, Boston, Grantham and Skegness are widely separated. Nominally centred on Lincoln since IMechE began, we are having to recognise that today there are more members around Scunthorpe and Lincolnshire Area meeting locations are under review. If this is your patch, then please join in and ask for some meetings to be near you. Lincolnshire often arrange joint meetings with related Institutions.
Peterborough is also something of an engineering island and we operate as a Joint Panel with the major sister Institutions as a practical way of achieving critical mass for successful meetings
Young Members' panels parallel the Area Committees and are run by members mostly under 30, but technically you are a “Young Member” for the decade after achieving corporate status! They are particularly good at arranging events to develop management and social evenings with light hearted competitions as well as technology.
Two Divisions have Centres in our Region which is home to leading companies in automotive and railway research, design and production. We also have some fine academic institutions providing a high level of education and training for students aspiring to a career in these exciting and dynamic fields.
Our local Automobile Division and Railway Division Centre’s Committees work to put in place interesting programmes of events covering a range of relevant topics. Like our regional committees, they hold committee meetings around 5 or 6 times a year and put on 6 to 8 evenings which are a good balance of entertaining topics combined with some fascinating scientific subjects. Both provide an invaluable neutral forum for engineers to network. Occasionally all day meetings charging seminar fees are arranged to discuss major topics.
Please come to a meeting or two and be an active member. Better still, fill out the attached form and get to know your committee better.

Best wishes for 2022/23,
Your Area, Young Members', Centre, and Regional Chairs
