Particle accelerators have a myriad of other uses, notably in healthcare, industrial irradiation, human security, and the physical and biological sciences. UKRI operates Daresbury Laboratory on behalf of the UK research base, and funds the Accelerator Centre and the Cockcroft Institute to undertake research into new particle accelerator technologies.
