Medical device development is fraught with hurdles and often involves a variety of challenges spanning many different disciplines. This presentation aims to give a broad overview of the device development process and the considerations for gaining approval of combination products. Real world examples are used to show how mechanical engineering and innovation can be utilised to develop combination products and ultimately improve patients’ lives.

Join us to hear how we’re helping our clients to navigate through the risks and rewards of deploying digital into their healthcare products and services. We’ll share a number of toolkits and approaches we use which help us to better quantify user experiences; highlighting where the value in digital can be captured and monetised.

Applying science and engineering to healthcare is one of the most multidisciplinary areas of R&D and can be one of the most rewarding (although also occasionally frustrating)! Developing a new diagnostic, monitoring or treatment technique in the laboratory is exciting, but the real reward is to get that technique out of the lab and into use on patients.

Current surgical robots give surgeons the ability to precisely and
delicately manipulate tissue without requiring large incisions into
the body. The robots themselves are large and costly, however, which
limit their use. We discuss some of the engineering underpinnings that
cause these robotic systems to be large, and talk through strategies
for overcoming these limitations.
