Description
This lecture will be presented by Andrew Warner MA (Oxon) FRAeS, Retired Chief Test Pilot, Airbus Helicopters, on Thursday 6th April at 7.30pm. The lecture will follow the RAeS branch AGM which is at 7:15pm.
Taking recent examples from helicopter test programmes and customer activities, Andrew Warner will describe the most significant hazards in helicopter operations and how to tackle them effectively and with the right priorities. He will discuss how aeronautical culture affects safety and how safety can be managed. The trends in safety management, such as “Just Culture” and the increasing importance of the human and organisational factors in the light of improving technical safety, will be addressed.
Andrew Warner served in the Army Air Corps after graduating from Oxford University. He attended the Empire Test Pilots School and then worked at the Royal Aircraft Establishment Farnborough. In 1986 he joined Messerchmitt Bölkow Blohm as Tiger program pilot and performed the first flight in France in 1991. Since then he has been Chief Test Pilot of Eurocopter Deutschland, Eurocopter France and, until recently, of the Airbus Helicopters Group in which role he was responsible for 200 aircrew worldwide. Andrew will be retiring in 2017. He has flown over 70 types of aircraft including 28 as captain.
