Our visit in February booked up very quickly, so we have arranged another visit and tour of Makespace for IMechE members and their guests, kindly hosted by Dr Ward Hills, a founder and Director. Makespace also has regular 'See the Space' events on Monday evenings (see www.meetup.com/Makespace/events).

Makespace (makespace.org) is a 4000sqft community workshop in Cambridge for creating things, meeting people, working on projects and sharing skills. It has a wide range of equipment for members to use from lathes to lasercutters, 3d printers to electronics and textiles to jewellery, and space for workshops and events.

Makepace's members join for personal or business reasons and include engineers, designers, artists, educators, hobbyists, DIYers, market traders, entrepreneurs and more. If you have a project to work on, Makespace might be for you.

The space is made up of multiple rooms, including a wood and metal workshop, a large main space with lots of prototyping equipment, a classroom for talks and events, a kitchen, craft room and even a trove full of stuff that can be used in projects. The space is open 24/7 for our members.

Parking: Please note there is no parking on site – there is a car park, but it has a barrier and all the spaces are reserved for other organisations. There are bike racks. There is some on street parking on Trumpington Street. The nearest public multi-storey carpark is Grand Arcade (www.cambridge.gov.uk/parking), which is 0.3 mile, 10 minutes walk.
