The Annual General Meeting of the Cambridgeshire area of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers will be held on Wednesday 10th July 2019 at 18:15 at the Cambridge Museum of Technology, PYE Building, Old Pumping Station, Cheddars Lane, Cambridge, CB5 8LD.
After the AGM, there will be a short break, followed at 19:00 by a talk by Theron Pearman on the forensic engineering involved in collision investigation.
Talk Details:
The UK police have a duty to investigate unexplained deaths to UK citizens and often this means conducting a scientific examination into the causes of road traffic accidents and other major incidents.
During this talk retired policeman Theron Pearman will explain some of the forensic engineering investigations that he has been involved in throughout his career: focusing on road traffic crashes and a selection of major incidents such as the Potter’s Bar rail crash.
A shortened version of this talk was given as part of the Museum of Technology’s Science Festival 2019 evening ‘It Couldn’t Happen Here: Investigating Engineering Failures’
Theron retired from the police force after 30 years of service. During this time, he worked in a variety of policing roles including; beat officer, firearms officer, traffic policing and expert witness. He spent the final 15 years of his career as a collision investigator in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire constabularies. Theron now works as a maths and physics lecturer specialising in collision investigation.
