Description

Talk details: In 2016, steam locomotive Flying Scotsman returned to mainline running following a prolonged period of overhaul since its purchase by the National Railway Museum in 2004. Following the contract award in October 2013, the final overhaul to deliver the locomotive to mainline running condition was undertaken, which is the subject of this presentation. It includes the project and engineering management arrangements implemented to deal with the multiple stakeholders, and, the processes and the issues arising to finally deliver the locomotive to running condition.

Our speaker, Mike Corbett was the project manager for the final restoration period of Flying Scotsman. He has had many years as a senior engineering manager and director within the rail industry, and now operates a part time engineering consultancy. He is a Fellow of this institution, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and a Member of the Association of Project Management.
