Description
The Power of Emotional Intelligence
Engineering is a multifaceted profession requiring analytical skills, creativity, communication skills, entrepreneur knowledge, leadership, ethical standards, professionalism and flexibility. While there are many opportunities to advance our technical skills there are relatively few aimed at developing personal skills to make us more effective engineers.
In 1995 Daniel Goleman popularized the concept of Emotional Intelligence or EQ (Emotional Quotient) for short. It describes an ability to understand, connect with and motivate people. Goleman concluded that:
-
A high IQ will open doors to your chosen profession
-
However, once you are in that profession, EQ emerges as a much stronger predictor of who will be most successful
During this session you will learn about the five key dimensions of EQ. The ability to communicate effectively is one of the underpinning skills supporting a high EQ – to start you on your journey this will be explored in greater depth.
