Description
Inclusive design is often treated as a checklist - something to be validated at the end of a project with a reassuring “it meets the standards”. But who is it really for?
And what happens when we get it wrong?
In this high-level seminar, Simone West, Principal Engineer for
Inclusive Design at TfL, and Rob Morland at Astutim, will explore the reality of delivering inclusion in
complex infrastructure, moving beyond compliance to consider the lived
experience of passengers.
Using the journey through a railway station as a
lens, from approach to platform and onto the train, they will highlight where
common assumptions fall short and where opportunities for better design are
often missed.
The session will challenge some of the industry’s most
persistent misconceptions about inclusive design, reflect on when it should meaningfully influence decision making, and offer practical insights into how
engineers and designers can start to make a difference, even within the
constraints of real projects.
