The IMechE - Greater London Region (GLR) Young Member Panel (YMP) is the official group for young Mechanical Engineers who work or live in Greater London. We organise technical and social events in a range of formats, and promote mechanical engineering within society by supporting the education and career development of young engineers.

In recent years the YMP has gone from strength to strength. Not only have we diversified our committee to include students and young engineers from many different universities and companies, we have also expanded our activities.

Aims

Benefits of joining

Joining the YMP is a great way to find out more about the opportunities available from the IMechE and can provide a number of benefits; whether you're studying, looking for work or in the early stages of your engineering career. The YMP offers members numerous opportunities to develop their personal and professional skills (e.g. lead teams, project manage, control budgets, organise events).

    Commitment

All YMP members are volunteers and there is no fixed level of commitment, however we encourage all members to get as involved as much as possible. Members can volunteer to attend or support individual events, or commit a few hours each week by taking on one of the main roles on the panel.

    STEMNET

The YMP is keen that all panel members register as a "STEM Ambassador" through STEMNET. New STEM Ambassadors receive an induction and are able to complete a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check, which allows them to work with young engineers in schools.
