This walk is being, organised by the Civil Engineers' Club  but any friends wishing to join us will be welcome.

A circular walk of 9 miles starting  at Chatham Railway Station at 10am. (6 miles in the morning and early afternoon - 3 miles after lunch). The walk takes in the "Lines and Maritime Monument", old Royal Naval Barracks (HMS Pembroke), the dockyard, St. Mary's Island (with views of the River Medway and Upnor Castle) the historic dockyard area, Brompton and Fort Amherst.
The walk involves some slight/moderate gradients, steps at times, but mainly flat terrain. It will be on pavements and footpaths,  except for a wooded area leading up to Fort Amherst.

For those driving, use the Whiffen's Avenue car park. This is a large car park at the top of the hill by the Town Hall (£3.50 for 6 hours not the £2.50 option for 4 hours). The walk will pass through here at about 10.15. All day parking at the Railway Station is £6.30 but the car park is most likely to be full. We should arrive back at Whiffens Ave. car park about 3.45pm and Chatham Railway Station 4pm.

Lunch has been arranged at "The Mess Deck" in the historic dockyard area for 1.30 pm. Note please bring a snack if you wish, as we will stop en-route, and possibly a coffee, if we have time.

With regard to the Historic Dockyard part of the walk, it has been arranged for us to walk through with no requirement to purchase entrance tickets.
Upon arrival we proceed directly to the visitor entrance area where they will be expecting us. The Mess Deck restaurant is inside and tables should be set aside.  There is a selection of locally sourced meals, including fish and chips, or alternatively, freshly prepared sandwiches.
Once we  have finished our meal a member of staff will give us access to the site, so that we can continue on our way,

Please let Tony Barber know if you wish to participate in the walk by using the "send a message" link at the bottom of the page.  He will be able to send you a map of the route

Walkers are reminded that they walk at their own risk.
