The Circular Economy is a new economic model, starting to replace the familiar linear take-make-dispose model, where many resources are used just once then become waste. Writing on this subject on the IMechE website earlier this year, IMechE member Sandy Rodger concluded that the Circular Economy is "a better model for the industrial system as a whole. It invites a rejuvenation of manufacturing, and of engineering, especially in countries like the UK where these sectors have so diminished in recent times. If we are proud of engineering, and of manufacturing, this is an open goal.” On 4th November Sandy will lead a meeting, sponsored by the EESG, where we develop this conversation further, exploring what the Circular Economy is and what opportunities and challenges it raises for engineers. This should be a cross-sector and cross-disciplinary conversation - please come and join in!
