Description

Contrary to common perception, efforts to slow the rise in CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere through the reduction of emissions from human activity such as energy efficiency and using renewable resources, will only reduce the amount of sea level rise but cannot prevent it happening and will not realistically nor substantially avoid the projected rise in sea level over the next 50 years.

 Based on scientific data, levels will be at least 1m higher within 30 years and even more by 2100 - possibly more than 7m.

And yet there are many developments located at or near sea level at coastal locations, and more being planned. These are being constructed without consideration of actual future sea levels and the flooding that will occur.

Furthermore, many of our existing coastal developments will be flooded as sea levels rise and services to these developments, such as electricity, data and comms, heating and cooling systems, gas and even drainage will fail due to corrosion and flooding by sea water. Transport systems and road connections will be compromised as buildings and developments are cut off from each other.
