A panel of experts on the hydrogen industry will present insights into new and existing technologies for large-scale production, distribution of both heating and transport fuels, and use in mainstream rail transport.

The speakers will cover:

  • Large Scale H2 production by the well-known Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) process through to Auto-Thermal Reforming (ATR), as a means of enabling CO2 capture.

  • Novel methods for producing H2 though Thermomechanical cycles, making usage of ‘Chemical Loop’ in which a material is used to store a product or reactant transiently.

  • The HyNET project at which a proportion of hydrogen would be injected into the general Natural Gas system – large enough to make a difference to CO₂ emissions, but small enough to avoid the costs associated with wholesale replacement or modification of appliances.

  • How the world’s first hydrogen train shows whether hydrogen is a realistic option for rail traction within the UK. The implications of hydrogen being an energy vector will also be discussed.
