Since 1990, London Underground has delivered major upgrades to the Central, Jubilee, Northern and Sub‑Surface lines, introducing Automatic Train Operation to improve service. Unlike the enclosed Victoria Line, these routes include open sections where weather affects wheel‑rail adhesion. This presentation compares ATO performance on those open sections, identifies constraints, and suggests future measures, including closer integration between rolling stock and train control systems.
