On December 12th 2011, Deeside College student and UPM – Shotton Paper employee David Cottis is celebrating this week after being named the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) 2011 ‘Most Improved Student’ for Merseyside and North Wales at Deeside College.
David from Saughall near Chester built on the skills he’d developed during his apprenticeship by studying part-time for a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering. He was selected for the award from some 150 off other students and apprentices as a result of achieving Distinction grades in all aspects of his work.
David said: “I thoroughly enjoyed studying for my HNC qualification and the course has helped me immensely in my role. I am delighted to have been selected for this award and would like to thank IMechE, my employer UPM-Shotton Paper for allowing me the opportunity and my tutors at Deeside College for their support throughout my studies.”
Director of Engineering at Deeside College Nick Tyson added: “I’d like to congratulate David on all his achievements. He has been an exemplary student throughout his time at Deeside College and I’m delighted that his efforts have been recognised by IMechE.”
The presentation was held in the presence of UPM-Shotton Paper Training Manager Peter Forsyth, IMechE Most Improved Student 2011 David Cottis, Ron Faulkner IMechE Professional Development Consultant and Deeside College Director for Engineering Nick Tyson.
