For a number of Years the Merseyside and N Wales Region have sponsored the local “Regional” final of the Raytheon Quadcopter Challenge by providing Judges and also a prize of £100 to the participants from the wining school. |
This year, due to Covid restrictions all of the presentations were done online. Two local schools, Connah’s Quay High School and Ysgol Bryn Alyn (Wrexham) competed for a place in the National final. Both schools adapted really well to this new format giving very informative and engaging presentations
Each year the challenge has a theme and this year’s theme was “Mission to Mars”. As ever the schools rose magnificently to this very interesting challenge.
Both presentations were excellent with the participants all showing that they had done extensive research which led to a great understanding of both the principles of flight and the particular challenges of flying a quadcopter on Mars.
Choosing a winner was not an easy task for the judges, but in the end the team from Connah’s were chosen to represent the region in the national Final, which was also held on line. John Pollard I.Mech.E. Regional Chairman – Merseyside and N Wales |
