Members and guests attended what has been described by some 'as one of the best technical visits ever offered by the Region' at Electoimpact in Harwarden.
A very
informative visit and we owe our thanks to our host John Jones, CEng and his 9 engineer and technician colleagues who gave their evening to educate us.
Electroimpact,
UK, Hawarden, have a 2-week deadline towards a technical visit of a Chinese plane
maker, as they are the potential supplier of wing making components. These
cover the full length and parts of the wings.
Each engineer
explained their specific role, together with visits to their workshops.
Great! The
thousands of components displayed were sourced/manufactured in the UK.
The Company
was designed by the founder as a 'Haven for Engineers', with vertical
responsibility for all work (no purchasing dept.) from concept to customer
acceptance, with minimal bureaucracy and barriers to success. This point was
made to us and, for my part, I found it
an ideal philosophy (Ian Binning, CEng).
Electroimpact
UK, have a wide range of products including complete automation assembly
systems for commercial aircraft wings, unique riveting technology(electroimpact)
and the accuracy they work to on their jigs and tooling for wing panels (and
for fuselage assembly in the USA), advanced Fibre Placement machines and
robotic assembly systems with laser control, etc.
Such was the
interest that, with Question Time, the event finished at 9.00pm.
