Welcome to the Birmingham Area
Engaging and connecting engineers in the Birmingham (UK) region

It is said that the Institution of Mechanical Engineers was founded in 1847 in the Queen's Hotel in Birmingham, so it's great news that we have been able to rejuvenate a Birmingham Area committee.
There are more than 3000 members who live or work in the greater Birmingham area and with the changes in engineering in the Midlands it's an exciting place to be.

The Birmingham Area Committee aims to support the local engineering community with valued events and services which develop and promote knowledge, understanding and professionalism of mechanical engineers. We want activities to be supportive of members' interests, which can be varied considering the range of industries active in the Midlands. We also take pride in supporting local STEM events, to help building a better future for everyone.

Supported by regional IMechE staff and strong links with other IMechE divisions and other institutions, we will keep you up to date with news and events in the area. Most of our events are free and open to the general public.

We value your feedback and are always interested to hear your views on events or initiatives that we organise or support. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you like some more information about our committee, the institution, or the different types of membership.

Remember that affiliate membership is free for undergraduate engineering students and apprentices.

Contact us if you want any more information or have any comments.

Regular Meetings
We usually meet once a month, on the last Tuesday of the month, 19:00 to 20:00, to welcome new members, share information from our head-office, the Midland Region, other area groups, and our events. Our meetings are mostly on MS Teams and occasionally in person, but we have no regular location for this. You can use following link if you like to join us online: Monthly IMechE BAC meeting on MS Teams
(We don't hold meetings in July and August)

Annual General Meeting

We hold our AGM once a year in March. This is an essential part of our organisation, and we hold this meeting in person. It's a time for the committee to account for the operations over the year, and a great occasion for members to come forward if they want to take an active role when we elect a new committee.
