HVDC Interconnection - UK and Internationally (hopefully hybrid; WiFi TBC)
Technical lecture
04 July 2023 18:30 - 20:00
This event has finished
Description
How the UK, and the rest of the world, is looking to strengthen energy security, business opportunity and market availability with high voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnectors, windfarms and offshore platforms.
HVDC submarine cables transport electricity hundreds of miles, have incredible capacity and come with installation challenges.
During the session we'll look at cable design, mechanical handling, offshore vessels, subsea burial trenchers, installation challenges, and cable protection. As well as what happens when it goes wrong!
======
We hope to have this as a hybrid event and have been provided guest login details for the school WiFi but last year we couldn't get those to work - we'll try again, but can't guarantee success.
======
For those attending in person, there's no need to book (so no need to bring your 'ticket'), but feel free to do so - it'll give us some idea of expected attendance; thanks.
The event is in the Lecture Theatre - please use the school car park and the main school entrance.
Refreshments (tea/coffee/biscuits) available from 18:00.
