Description

2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the modern railway. The invention and innovation of the early railway pioneers has transformed the way we live: mechanical and civil engineers working together. In a similar way, this IMechE event is being co-promoted by ICE.

As outlined in this flyer, Kieren Green will share insight into the considerations and work required to repair masonry arched viaducts and to install new elements ahead of reopening this railway corridor.

Masonry arched structures along the route were in varying states of condition before renovation by East West Rail Alliance delivery teams. East West Rail Design Team solutions involved the repair of existing structural elements, strengthening arches using saddling, waterproofing to prolong durability and the installation of FRP walkways to provide maintenance access over roads and rivers.

For those attending in person, there's no need to book (so no need to bring your 'ticket'), but feel free to do so - it'll give us some idea of expected attendance; thanks.
