This event has finished
Description
The site visit will involve a guided tours of the energy-from-waste (efw) facility at the Severnside energy recovery centre, operated by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd. The EfW facility can generate 34 MW of electricity, by recovering the energy from up to 400,000 tonnes per annum of municipal solid (black bag) waste. The majority of waste delivered to the site comes from the 1.6 million people living in the western boroughs of London using closed rail transport containers, via a custom built railhead on the site.
Places are restricted to a maximum of 16 adults (+17 years) and it is obligatory to pre-register on the IMechE website. Though transport to site is not provided, access to onsite parking is available via the weighbridge. The nature of the facility means that the tour will be preceded by a safety induction and the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Though the majority of PPE such as helmets, vests, glasses, gloves and ear plugs can be provided, it is recommended participants bring their own safety footwear.

This event is free to attend and is open to all with an interest in Engineering but bookng is essential.
