Technical visit
14 September 2021 18:00 - 21:00
This event has finished
Description

An opportunity to see inside the on-site gas and leachate processing facilities at one of the largest closed landfills in the United Kingdom. The tour will explain how gas drawn from the landfill is cleaned and used to generate electricity, plus how leachate water from within the landfill is extracted and treated.

The distance of over a kilometre between the Gas Utilisation Plant and Leachate Processing Plant, means that the tour will be in two parts, with a requirement for participants to transfer between facilities in their own vehicles. In addition, access to the Leachate Plant will require an external walk of 400 metres.

Visitor numbers are limited and visitors must provide their own safety footwear (protective toecaps and soles). Visitors may wish to bring their own site safety helmets and  hi-vis jackets, but the site will provide these items.  It is suggested that attendees conduct a lateral flow test for Covid-19  on the day of the event and do not attend if the result is positive

Registration will close either when the permitted numbers are reached, or at 12:00 on 13th September.  Detailed instructions on how to access the site will be provided to registered visitors by 20:00 on September 13th.
