As part of 
STEAMFest, the Hive’s exhibition of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics, the IMechE have arranged a lecture that demonstrates how the basic science and mathematics taught at school applies to real situations.  Aimed at GCSE/A-Level Science and Maths students, this event is open to everyone and we welcome all those interested in childrens’ learning.

Have you ever wondered how passenger aircraft weighing hundreds of tons manage to stay airborne?

This talk covers the basic mechanics of aircraft flight and manoeuvrability, and describes the methodology used to design an aircraft for a specific role .  By using some maths and physics familiar to students  the talk will also explain why an aircraft looks the way it does.
