The Automobile North Eastern Division Centre, is centred in the Durham area and covers all of the north east from North Yorkshire to Northumberland. We organizes around eight to ten evening lectures or social events per year and gives support and encouragement to those aspiring to become EngTech, Incorporated (IEng) and Chartered Engineers (CEng).
We are always on the look out for new panel members. More details are available on our recruitment page.
The ADNE Centre organising committee comprises of volunteering members of the institution and we meet once per month over teleconference or face to face sessions. Our aim is to promote engineering through effective knowledge transfer. We arrange evening lectures across the region open to both members and non-members who are interested in Automotive Engineering. Our panel members range from graduates to retirees, covering a diverse range of backgrounds from academia to automotive component supply to the manufacture of complete vehicles.
Our lectures are topical, lively and provide for a wide range of audience backgrounds while focusing on a mixture of new automotive product launches, new technologies and other notable global automotive events such as land-speed record, formula 1 and rally sport. We have even been known to organize ride and drive events in electric vehicles! Our events are interactive with a chance to ask questions, before, during and after the lecture. We are welcoming of all visitors to socialize with professional and like-minded people!
ADNE Centre events are further enhanced by the fact that the venues we use enable us to display vehicles and exhibits in the room or laboratories during the lecture. Our lectures are also open to the public so both members and non-members are welcomed. You are welcome to bring along any friends or relatives who may be interested in that particular topic. There is no admission fee to our events but we request advanced registration online to help us organise better and also for to meet safety and security needs at our venues (For help with event booking please visit our FAQ page). Parking is easy and free at all our regular venues.
Lectures are usually on a Wednesday and about 5 to 6 weeks apart. Our venues are normally Durham University, the Nissan car plant in Sunderland, Teesside University in Middlesbrough, Ramside Hall hotel, Durham Cricket Club or Cummins Engine plant in Darlington.
The North East Greenpower subcommittee resides within our panel and is a key partner in organising of the North East Greenpower Heat at Croft every July. We provide financial and mentoring support to local schools helping them with their entry to the event. We even provide volunteers on the day to support the race though our links with local industries and as a committee run independent engineering day events alongside, exposing local students to various aspects of engineering.
We actively welcome schools, universities, & those involved in education and careers to apply for our support; as well as offers from you or your company if you are interested in presenting at a future event (lectures are usually booked around one year in advance) - in the first instance please contact our Hon. Secretary (Use the "
