Description

After decades of automation and globalisation, both the shape of our economy, and our skills requirements have changed beyond recognition.

Skills funding has been reduced significantly, whilst frequent policy shifts have moved the financial burden or the costs of training from the public purse, to individuals and businesses.

The result is an increasing dissatisfaction with our skills system on the part of employers and an increasing frustration with our education system.

This presentation will challenge current thinking. It will provide an alternative view as to both the causes and potential solutions to our national STEM skills shortages.

It will share evidence which may surprise you and provide a perspective from a young person’s point of view.

Zoe is the first female Principal of Middlesbrough College and was recognised in 2013 as the most inspirational leader in FE for her commitment to her work alongside the raising of her family.

Zoe has demonstrated a huge commitment to the industries on Teesside through a £20m investment in STEM subjects, facilities and staff which has resulted in more than a doubling of Engineering, Computing and Digital student and apprenticeship numbers over a five year period.

She plays an active role with the CBI and the North East Chamber of Commerce and actively supports employers to engage positively with schools, colleges and young people.

The College is currently working on developing new, employer led flexible and affordable Higher Education courses which provide greater opportunities to gain higher skills whilst remaining in employment and whilst progressing your career.

The talk will be followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion

Light refreshments will be served from 18:00.  Please book a place so we can cater accurately
