This Event has been organised by the “Climate Change Adaptation” Working Group of the Process Industries Division of the IMechE. It is hosted by the Process Industries Division and promoted across the Process Industries Community, which includes the Centres in the North West and Yorkshire Regions, the Aberdeen Area, the North East area.
The potential slowdown of ocean currents associated with the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and the resulting impact on climate across the UK, Europe, Scandinavia and North America has profound implications for the outcome of our current adaptation and resilience building strategies. This webinar will consider the anticipated changes to climate and provide an initial engineering perspective on the possible physical impacts to the built environment, engineered infrastructure, and engineering systems. The uncertainty and risks associated with such an event occurring will be discussed, together with how the profession should account for these in the current development of adaptation and resilience building activities. Areas that will be explored include the implications for design methods and codes, building regulations, best practice guidance, and education and training, both with regard to existing physical assets and new builds.
