In this video the Institution's Teesside Area Panel hosted their 3rd Tech Talk event, focussing on environmentally sustainable technologies from Anemoi Marine Technologies and JDR Cables. Nick Contopoulos from Anemoi Marine Technologies will talk about the Flettner rotor and the work Anemoi have undertaken in developing and proving a design while Siobhan Doole from JDR Cables will talk about the design and development of the subsea cables in which JDR is a world leader, manufacturing systems for wind farms around the world. The Lotus Evija: Britain’s first all electric hypercar and world’s most powerful series production
The Lotus Evija is the first all-electric British hypercar and production starts this summer. Its mid-mounted battery pack echoes the celebrated Lotus mid-engined sports car layout, and the target is a WLTP driving range of 400km. With performance figures of 2,000 PS and 1,700 Nm, it is the world’s most powerful series production road car. It features many innovative world-firsts and is lightning quick, with acceleration from 0-300km/h in under nine seconds. Designed, engineered and to be built at Lotus’ famous home in Hethel, Norfolk, it is helping to cement the UK’s position as the world leader in high-performance automotive manufacturing, with a limited production run of 130 examples. The webinar will cover the design and engineering principles of the Lotus Evija, the first all-electric British-built hypercar and the world’s most powerful series production car, highlighting its innovation and how it’s a statement of intent for the rejuvenated Lotus brand.
Functional Safety and its Relation to Product Safety
In this webinar David Ward from HORIBA MIRA examines how functional safety relates to wider aspects of product safety and their associated engineering techniques. Functional safety is critical when considering designing new automotive technology for example ADAS, and even autonomous systems. For automobiles, design goals instead must focus on functional safety. ISO 26262 sets out the requirements for achieving functional safety in electronic systems in road vehicles. While the scope of the standard is deliberately restricted to hazards resulting from malfunctions of electronic systems, it is important to consider interactions with other disciplines.
