Welcome to the Greater Manchester Area
Greater Manchester has a proud heritage of Science and Engineering. We have world leading research, development and manufacturing on our doorstep and a host of new growing small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Many of these SMEs are engineering focused or users of engineering in their businesses.
All of these companies are competing for a scarce and precious resource: skilled and qualified engineers.
The Greater Manchester Area Committee celebrate, promote and empower members of our community to become engineers.
In order to encourage new entrants to engineering we hold talks and activities in the following areas:
- Career awareness
- Engineering educational activities
- Expert engineering talks
- Facilitation of mentorship of new engineers by experienced engineers
- Fund Raising to support educational activities
The IMechE is represented by Area committees
- Greater Manchester
- South Lancashire
- South Cumbria (based in Barrow-in-Furness)
- North Lancashire
- West Cumbria (centred around Whitehaven).
and Specialist Divisions
- Automotive
- Manufacturing
- Power
- Process
- Railway Divisions
The activities of all these groups are co-ordinated by the North West Regional Committee.
