Almost every industrial site in the world, whether in the chemical, petrochemical, food, cosmetics/pharmaceutical business, employs some type or several types of pump(s) and pumping systems in some stage of the manufacturing process. A significant number of industrial applications, where pumping systems are employed, are classed as potentially explosive atmospheres.

In a global market, where business is fast and international access to the markets is directly related to regulatory compliance, product certification is paramount for safety purposes as well as for facilitating business trade.

The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the Ex certification schemes that apply to non-electrical equipment and discuss design and certification requirements specific to pumping system intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

At the end of this course you will have a knowledge of:

  • The scope of the certification schemes that apply to non-electrical equipment
  • An overview of the technical and compliance requirements that apply to pumping systems  
  • Essential assessment principles and methods

 

Our speaker, Stelios Roumbedakis is a Technical Manager (Non-Electrical Equipment) and Certification Engineer at Eurofins CML in the United Kingdom. He holds a BEng in Mechanical & Automotive Engineering and an MSc in Advanced Materials Engineering; his career spans product design, development and manufacturing, and he has been working within the Ex product certification field for the last ten years. During this time Stelios has worked both in manufacturing of Ex products as well as in Ex certification bodies, and he has taken a lead role in the certification of non-electrical equipment. He is a member of the BSI standards development committee EXL/23  and BPMA technical committees, and as part of his former roles in the industry he has been a member of the ESA mechanical seal division committee and the Global Mechanical Seals Task Force Group developing and supporting the understanding of the application of ATEX as well as other Ex certification schemes to mechanical equipment.  

 

Eurofins E&E CML Limited (CML) was established as Certification Management Limited in June 2013. Offering a complete range of compliance services and is a UK Approved Body (No 2503) for the United Kingdom “Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres” Regulations 2016 (SI 2016:1107 (as amended)). Additionally, CML B.V., a subsidiary of Eurofins E&E CML Limited, is an EU Notified Body (No 2776) for European Union Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX). It is supported by its RvA Accreditation (No C640) to ISO/IEC 17065.

Eurofins CML’s services are supported by UKAS accreditation (No 8175) to ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17021-1 and ISO/IEC 17065 and the full scope of accreditation allows for the conducting of all Notified Body activities under this legislation.

 

Appointed in 2014, Eurofins CML is also an IECEx Certification Body (ExCB) and Test Laboratory (ExTL) with the full scope of standards.
