The IMechE Greater Manchester Young Members Panel invites you to attend an evening discussion with a lineup of guest speakers on the Energy Transition. This event will be an online talk on Thursday 2nd November 2023 from 18:30 - 20:00 GMT. We welcome talks on how engineers in the nuclear and hydrogen industries will play a part in the energy transitions towards net-zero.




Robert Best is a Hydrogen Innovation Engineer for National Gas Transmission providing insight into the opportunities and challenges of creating a Hydrogen Gas network in the UK. Previously materials engineer for Jaguar Landrover, Robert is now responsible for a portfolio of projects focussed on the materials aspects related to transitioning the national gas transmission system of Great Britain to incorporate Hydrogen gas.


Stu Vincent started as an academic and chartered physicist, becoming as a civilian civil servant teaching Royal Naval submariners for 10 years, and later became a submariner in the Royal Navy living and working with the nuclear reactors onboard.
Since leaving the Navy, he have taught in the civilian and defence nuclear industry, and currently delivers online and face-to-face education to customers including Jacobs, Rolls Royce SMR and EDF Energy on the Hinkley Point C project. 


Debnath Pal is the Consultancy Director at Stopford. Deb brings more than 30 years of consulting experience in the chemicals, oil & gas, fuel storage and the renewable energy sectors.  At Stopford he is responsible for the strategic growth of the company’s consultancy activities in the areas of Compliance, Low Carbon Solutions and Advisory Services. The presentation will review these goals for hydrogen and its impact on shaping the future growth of the UK hydrogen sector.  The presentation also referenced Stopford’s own experience in the generation of low carbon hydrogen to it’s safe use in decarbonising UK industry in order to balance the Energy Trilemma (energy security, environmental sustainability and energy equity (affordability)).
