The Speak Out for Engineering SOFE competition is designed for young engineers seeking to develop verbal and visual communication skills and involves giving a 20 minute talk on an engineering topic of your choice. The talks are viewed by a live audience of attendees and a panel of judges. The judges will question and score each contestant against a variety of criteria, with emphasis given to presentation skills, and only 10% weighting given to technical content.

The winner of the Manchester heat will win the £300 cash prize from the IMechE. The runner-up will win £200.
