Description

With many engineers running small workshops at home, the prospect of DIY engineering is familiar to many within the profession. This hobby rarely gets thrust into the spotlight but with the COVID-19 pandemic, many of those trapped at home began producing essential parts to aid in the local, national, and global efforts. Stephen McEvoy, founder of Furness 3D Printing, discusses how he adopted a new hobby and started a new business in response to COVID-19. He'll be discussing the benefits of additive manufacturing, the technical aspects of manufacturing safety visors, the ethics of producing safety equipment with minimal testing, and future opportunities for engineers to help in a national crisis.
