Hovercraft Racing has been described as “driving a bar of soap at 70mph..with no brakes”  A technical talk on what goes into successfully designing and making a racing hovercraft.

The talk will cover the engineering that goes into designing and manufacturing a racing hovercraft, it will highlight: Principles of operation, Hovercraft Racing formulas, Thrust and Lift, Composite hull construction, Skirt Design and Operation, Engine types and Selection, Fan selection, Fan selection software, Drivetrain, Steering, Building Reliability.

Tony Broad is a senior lecturer in Computer Aided Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire and for his hobby designs, builds and races hovercraft. Founder of Venom composites, Tony has built World Championship winning Hovercraft.
