Technical visit
07 June 2017 17:00 - 20:00
This event has finished

Galantas owns and recently operated an open pit gold mine near Omagh, County Tyrone, at the Cavanacaw Mine. The mine also produces silver and lead as by-products. The product metals are concentrated by safe, low-toxicity processing. Planning permission has now been received for the mine to start operations underground and has so far completed part of a drilling exploration program.

The visit will include a 30 minute presentation on the local and regional geology, discovery and history of the deposit, past open pit mining and future underground mining operations, followed by a 90 minute site tour of the existing mine excavations and processing facility.

The site tour will involve walking approximately 3km, with a small section up and down a 16% gradient in the pit.

Please note that visitors are required to bring their own steel toe boots and if possible hard hat and high vis jacket/waistcoat. The mine only has a small number of the latter two items available.
